Burning Love illustrates a scene from a 2008 candle-lit demonstration in Seoul, Korea. The demonstration was triggered by the Korean government’s reversal of a ban on US beef imports following the detection of mad-cow disease in US beef in 2003.
The protest was voluntarily joined by thousands of people, making it one of the most important democratic events in Korea’s modern history while the mainstream media didn’t broadcast the incident. Burning Love captures this significant moment through large-scale embroidery and revisits unexplored spaces in history.
