This series of drawings are an ongoing project, which began in New Delhi, India, 2004. The artist made drawings of flowers using a sewing machine, drawing directly from life. By recording the time and place in which she bought the flowers, this piece will become a linear trace of where the artist visited.

In South Korea, the sewing and garment industry has dominated the nation’s exports. Companies largely employ women workers who are paid minimal wages. By using a form of labor, which carries a low status in Korean society, the artist tries to reveal the ‘hidden’ part of a culture that actually sustains the South Korean economy.

Flower Drawing also questions the shifting category of the concept of beauty, which has been commodified and standardized by consumer society.
