Church Tower 2003 Church Tower 2004
Church Tower was a project in which I reproduced a church tower as a temporary, draped ruched structure, a ‘copy’ on the same scale as the original. In Korea, Protestant churches have an identical, repetitive shaped structure on top of each building. The growing number of church towers have become one of the most distinctive features of contemporary Korean cities, reflecting Korea’s history of involvement with Christianity in relation to social and political power.
Church Tower project aims to symbolize the superficial nature of state policy and its visual representation in everyday life in Korea utilising the decorative, playful intervention of an art object.
