Procession 2010

Embroidery and Acrylic on Scenic Fabric, 320 x 200 cm, Collection, Korean Eye, London

North Korea’s former leader Kim Il-sung and female Joseon Dynasty artist and writer Shin Saimdang are in the top centre of the work. When statues, symbols of past eras, are embroidered and their figural components transformed to create plural narratives of history and culture, the hierarchical system of historicism and the uniform power that regulates our memory is questioned.
