Procession

2010

Procession examines the process of translating statues and symbols of past eras through embroidery, looking at how their figural components are transformed, creating plural narratives of history and culture. The work questions the hierarchical system of historicism and the uniform power that regulates our memory. The figures of North Korea’s former leader Kim Il-sung and female artist and writer Shin Saimdang from the Joseon Dynasty are depicted in the work.
